About me
My first degree was a B.Ed at London University and I started my career as a teacher of children with learning difficulties. Later I studied psychodynamic counselling for my MA at the University of Reading before gaining a Supervision Diploma at the Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute in Nottingham. I am accredited by UK Council for Psychotherapy. I also did a relational integrative psychotherapy training at SPTI. I also studied body psychotherapy with Jochen Lude, co-founder of the Chiron Institute in London.
I set up and am currently the joint leader for the SWAN Project; an initiative focused upon addiction to alcohol and prescribed drugs. I have been a visiting lecturer at Bristol University. I provide supervision for the NHS, for several drug and alcohol services and for other mental health services. I have a private practice in Bristol, Exeter and Teignmouth in Devon. I also run several workshops and have started setting up on-going groups to consider the function of non-rational experiences.[1]
I have over 14 years experience of working as a relational, integrative counsellor/psychotherapist in a variety of settings. A lot of research shows that the relationship is the most important factor in the therapeutic process and this factor underpins all my work. I draw on thinking and techniques from different theoretical orientations depending on a person’s needs and wishes. How long we work together is by agreement with the client.
I have regular supervision for my counselling/psychotherapy and supervision sessions in accordance with UK Council for Psychotherapy’s Code of Ethics. I regularly take part in continuing professional development. I have Professional Indemnity Insurance and I work within the UK Council for Psychotherapy Ethical Framework and uphold their Complaints Procedure. Information can be obtained from: www.psychotherapy.org.uk
My passions are poetry, gardening, eco-psychology, storytelling and any process which illuminates the inter-connectedness of life.
