Depression
“The more you are able to honour and accept the Now, the more you are free of pain, or suffering”

Everyone, at some point, finds coping with everyday life difficult. It is possible for current issues to overwhelm all of us sometimes, either because too many negative events have come together or sometimes because the current crisis has reactivated an emotional upset from the past that has not been dealt with sufficiently. For example, a death of a close friend may trigger our unresolved mourning for a lost parent in our teenage years.
The symptoms include a depressed state of mind, feeling sad or empty, being more tearful than usual, a loss of interest or pleasure, weight loss, difficulties sleeping, loss of energy, fatigue, feelings of worthlessness or excessive amounts of guilt, an inability to think/concentrate and having morbid thoughts.
When we are depressed it may be too difficult to engage with friends or anyone we know. It may feel too demanding and we might feel that we don’t want to burden them with our problems and bring them down. When we have someone to talk our problems through with it can help us to feel that someone understands us. Sometimes a situation from the past has been triggered in the present. When this is the case, the understanding of the emotions can help to begin lifting it.
Each person is different and so I use an integrative approach which might include aspects of CBT, Psychodynamic, Gestalt, Transactional Analysis, Motivational Interviewing and prescription poetry - it depends on the individual needs. I see the therapeutic relationship as the most potent and significant element of moving forward.
